Associate’s and Bachelor’s Level

Upon completion of the [Diploma Level], students may apply to continue their studies toward an Associate of Art in Theology (A.A.Th.) and a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) Degree.

The A.A.Th may be studied as an independent degree or as a stepping stone toward the B.Th. degree. As an independent degree, the A.A.Th. equips the student with a foundational seminary-level understanding of biblical, historical, systematic, and practical theology.  Students will graduate with a solid understanding of Lutheran theology.

The B.Th. degree from ALS certifies that a student has a well-rounded knowledge of the Bible and Lutheran theology. Graduates will be prepared to use and apply the teachings of Scripture and will be equipped for leadership roles within the church. Those who complete the B.Th. program may consider continuing in their studies for a [Master of Arts in Religion (M.A.R.)] or a [Master of Divinity (M.Div.)] degree.

Students at this level are also encouraged to begin their study of the [Biblical Languages]. While not required for A.A.Th. or B.Th. completion, a study of Greek and Hebrew will further equip the student for their study of God’s word and service within the church. These courses are also a required prerequisite for exegetical courses at the [Masters Level].

The A.A.Th. and B.Th. degrees build on the 48 credits earned at the [Certificate and Diploma] levels.  The A.A.Th. will be granted after a successful study of an additional 40 credits (88 cumulative credits) and the B.Th. will be granted after an additional 80 credits (128 cumulative credits).
